  • GenCon Photodump 3: Lludu and Mink

Posted on August 15, 2018 7:00 am by gdaybloke Comment

It’s the unlikely friendship no-one predicted! She’s Mink the Satyr, professional cosplayer and downright nifty person. He’s Lludu, a small burlap voodoo doll that’s become Lost Hemisphere’s unofficial mascot! They fight crime!

Well, not really, but man, if they did! Lludu rode with me to GenCon for spiffy photo ops, and I got to spend a couple of hours with Mink on the Saturday of GenCon, including taking her – while dressed as Aloy – to see the prototypes for Steamforged’s freshly announced Horizon: Zero Dawn game! You get to see pics now. Ain’t you blessed?

  • GenCon Photodump 2: Cosplayers

Posted on August 13, 2018 7:00 am by gdaybloke Comment

Welcome to GenCon Photodump 2! Today we take a look at an assortment of cosplayers spotted throughout GenCon2018. There’s a lot of fandoms out there. Some I recognize, some I don’t. What I do recognize though is the passion that these people have for their fandoms and their art. I’ve only cosplayed at GenCon once, and even then I was only able to do it thanks to other people’s creativity and skill in costume creation. I tip my hat to all these peeps in recognition of their dedication and their achievement. Not a lot of commentary in this one, but heck, there’s a whole bunch of photos… enjoy!

  • Toronto Comicon 2015

Posted on March 23, 2015 7:00 am by gdaybloke Comment

comiconlogoThere’s more than a handful of comic conventions in the Toronto area, but the largest on the calendar is FanExpo in the Summer. This isn’t it, but it’s put on by the same people, so… 😉 It’s basically a smaller scale Fan Expo. Still has some neat geek celebrities, but for my purposes, it’s perfect. Plenty of cosplayers and vendors, plenty of artists looking to sell their art skills and oh-so-keen to add to my Beta Ray Bill sketchbook… On Saturday I took Gdaygirl and her friend to  Toronto Comicon,  where they cosplayed for the very first time. They insisted that they needed to wander around without parental supervision, so I was – for a few hours – unsurpervized myself as I wandered the convention floor…

This is where it all began. Doctors 10 and 11. They had to borrow my sonic screwdrivers, but in the interests of making it an awesome day for them I was… willing… to let them wander with my precious, precious Whovian gadgets.

On with the show! We last saw our intrepid hero and his band of compatriots in the House of Bread Sticks, in which Gdaybloke quite enjoyed the Gnocchi. The dinner table that night was a raucous cacophony as the crew indulged in ribald humor and shared anecotes, and otherwise engaged in tomfoolery to the amusement and possible embarassment of the wait staff. Then they returned to the Crown Plaza to indulge in more Templecon the following day…

“Whut? Oh, yeah, we just won this li’l ole’ thing…”
Privateer art printed on stretch canvas. Perfect way to class up your nerd cave.

    … that’s not a euphemism.

  • Relic Knights: Black Diamond Extras

Posted on September 11, 2014 7:00 am by gdaybloke Comment

Part two! Yesterday we took a look at the Black Diamond starter that I picked up at GenCon (and yes, I totally acknowledge that Ninja Steve unboxed the Black Diamond starter awhile back, I just wanted an excuse to show off my Leopold Magnus :P), but it’d be a pretty piss-poor showing if the starter was *all* I walked away with.

The folks at Ninja Division took a little more of my money as I picked up some of the other Black Diamond models. In particular the character model Sophia Drake, the PC-9 Breaker team, and the Darkspace variant of the Iron Chef, who normally makes omelettes for the Star Nebula Corsairs. Accordingly, lets peek at come more Relic Knights components, and see if you can guess which one I painted before we get to the end of the article. If you follow Lost Hemisphere on Facebook you’ll already know the answer; no helping those who don’t know!

  • FanExpo Canada Photodump2: The Cosplayers

Posted on September 3, 2014 7:00 am by gdaybloke 2 Comments

FanExpo part the Second! This time we’ve got a Cosplay photodump. For those who missed yesterday’s post, a reminder: This was the Gdaykid’s very first FanExpo and the expedition was more about them getting their inner geek’s on than covering the convention for bloggeration, so they appear in a whole bunch of the pics.

Deal with it. I’m a geek dad and proud of my geeklings.

Our first coplay photo was of this other fine geek dad and  his little sidekick, and points to one of the highlights of FanExpo this year. I saw more little kids in costume this year than I have in any previous, and it just warmed my heart seeing all these youngsters proudly engaging in cosplay adventures. I salute you, cosplaying geek dad.

  • Gday at GenCon: The Second Bit

So the first part – posted yesterday – showed the leadup to GenCon and Friday’s adventures. Now it’s time to look at Saturday, and my subsequent trip home on Sunday.

As with any good adventure in which I am prone to take part, baked goods feature. This may be because of my superpower – the ability to subconsciously detect baked goods in the vicinity, especially around my workplace. No banana bread is safe!

I awoke Saturday morning to be greeted by LostHemiCupcakes, made with love and peanut butter by the Admiral herself. I don’t know about you, but to me? That’s pretty bloody awesome.

  • Gday At GenCon: Cosplay Photodump

Posted on August 19, 2014 7:00 am by gdaybloke 2 Comments

As anyone following the Twitter and Facebook feeds will be aware, I actually *was* at GenCon this past weekend! Hah, tricked you! I only managed to squeak in two of the four days, but it was an awesome experience in no small part thanks to Ninja Steve (and the Admiral) who played host, Faultie who played constant companion and guide to foods, and so many other very fine peeps including, but not limited to, the Privateer staffers who made their presence felt during my very first GenCon.

There’s going to be several posts based on the weekend’s shenanigans, including at least three photodumps, so I thought I’d get started with one of those.

I did NOT go to GenCon with the express intention of snapping pics of Cosplayers, and Lord knows there were dozens of excellent costumes that I didn’t snap any shots of, but here are some that caught my eye for one reason or another. Wheee!

Just for Lost pal Rich, it’s Aquaman and his (admittedly small) army of seahorses!
