  • GenCon Photodump 4: Ninja Division

Posted on August 22, 2018 7:00 am by gdaybloke Comment

Okay, so Monday’s post was kinda half unboxing, half GenCon debriefing, but today it’s the official Photodump #4. Lost Hemisphere has a history of hassling the Ninja Division booth, and that’s in large part due to my fondness for their chibi models (Super Dungeon Explore, Ninja All Stars, Rail Raiders Infiniite). Sure, they produce other games too, but the chibis have my heart… Nevertheless I *did* try to talk about other things with Ninja Division’s John Cadice, such as the newly released Doomseeker, which we unboxed right before we headed off to GenCon.

And now you can see other Ninja Division things!

Museum Rush was also unleashed at GenCon…

  • GenCon 2015 Pt 2: Peeps and Props

Posted on August 13, 2015 7:00 am by gdaybloke Comment

Moar GenCon! Yesterday’s post was all about strolling the floor, now let’s take a gander at some of the costumes and cool peeps I bumped into. It’s loose categorization, but I needed some means of differentiating between the two photodumps, deal with it 😉

Ninja Steve was, of course, my trusty sidekick throughout this adventure.

    BAHR! ITSA BAHR!

  • Templecon Fundraiser Call For Contributions

Posted on December 2, 2014 7:00 am by gdaybloke Comment

Man, I’d be so much more productive if I stopped playing SimCity Buildit… Maybe then I wouldn’t be so far behind in my painting for Templecon. Relevance, you ask? Well, not much other than the link to Templecon itself, really. It is time for a reminder of this year’s annual Lost Hemisphere Charity Fundraiser though.

Templecon 2015’s beneficiary is the Hope Alzheimer’s Center of Cranston, Rhode Island. Some folks have asked why not a larger charity, and it’s a fair question. The reason is that a lot of larger charity organizations have a larger overhead to match, and portions of the proceedings are lost to that overhead. $500 is a drop in the bucket to multi-million dollar groups. They do amazing things, for sure, but that same $500 for a smaller charity could mean, for example, doubling their monthly budget for recreation therapy for their residents. It is in this way that we can make a direct and significant impact on the lives of people suffering from Alzheimer’s and the people that care for them. In the past twelve months the Gdayclan has lost two of its matriarchs, and other members of the Titans have also been affected by Alzheimer’s in a large way this year. The choosing of the Hope Center is a very personal thing for us.

Of course, we hope that you’ll be able to join us at Templecon and you’ll have a generous spirit, purchasing many raffle tickets, from which all proceeds will go directly to the Hope Alzheimer’s Center, facilitated by our good pals from the New England Privateers (who you can support further by looking into maybe attending CaptainCon).

Now, I did just say raffle tickets – we’d like to give attendees a chance to win something shiny to bring home from Templecon. To make that happen, we need shiny things. We’ll be providing a bunch of stuff ourselves, but we’re also accepting donations for the prize table. We’re looking for donations to be either New-In-Box or fully painted – we want to have them displayed on the table, catching the eyes of passers-by and enticing them to support our fundraising efforts. To that end, the prize pool currently includes (but is not limited to):

    • Fully painted Cephalyx (Exulon Thexus) force, donated by Lost Painter (and Party Fouler) Tuna
    • Fully painted Legion of Everblight (Kallus) force, donated by Rawrmachine‘s Tyrant Mithras
    • Fully painted Shae theme force, donated by prolific podcast pom Kev Bryant
    • Asphyxious the Hellbringer, donated by Noghannan and painted by Rob Hawkins
    • Custom Earthbreaker Colossal, donated by Faultie
    • Custom Rask and Ironback Spitter, donated by CaptainSpud
    • Vyros2, Destors and Thanes, donated by Podthrall Dale of THACO Podcast
    • Archangel, donated by ANDY FROM UK!
    • War Hog, donated by local awesome guy MortymerXT
    • High Command: Faith & Fortune w/ Escalating Conflict
    • High Command: Castle of the Keys
    • Level 7: Invasion

There’s more coming that we’re waiting on the final details for, including (but again, not limited to) tournament trays from Broken Egg Games, miniature storage solutions from KR Multicase, resin bases from Dragon Forge Design, and more models from Privateer Press, Soda Pop Miniatures, Arena Rex and Lord knows who else by the time we’re done.

This is where you can help out.

We had a fantastic table last Templecon, and I’m not going to lie – this one’s already looking pretty sweet, but we can make it even sweeter. If you think you might have time to paint up a model or two for the table… if you think your local store might be interested… if you’ve managed to make a life-size plush Shredder… If you think you might be able to contribute to the prize table in any way, please drop me an email at gdaybloke@losthemisphere.com and we can get into a dialogue to make this happen.

I know I’m not speaking just for myself when I say thank you for your consideration.

  • Relic Knights: Black Diamond Extras

Posted on September 11, 2014 7:00 am by gdaybloke Comment

Part two! Yesterday we took a look at the Black Diamond starter that I picked up at GenCon (and yes, I totally acknowledge that Ninja Steve unboxed the Black Diamond starter awhile back, I just wanted an excuse to show off my Leopold Magnus :P), but it’d be a pretty piss-poor showing if the starter was *all* I walked away with.

The folks at Ninja Division took a little more of my money as I picked up some of the other Black Diamond models. In particular the character model Sophia Drake, the PC-9 Breaker team, and the Darkspace variant of the Iron Chef, who normally makes omelettes for the Star Nebula Corsairs. Accordingly, lets peek at come more Relic Knights components, and see if you can guess which one I painted before we get to the end of the article. If you follow Lost Hemisphere on Facebook you’ll already know the answer; no helping those who don’t know!

  • Relic Knights: Black Diamond Starter

Posted on September 10, 2014 7:00 am by gdaybloke Comment

It’s been a few weeks now since I attended GenCon, and I’m still working through the backlog of reviews and unboxings and whatnot. Seriously, the dearth of blog material alone makes it a worthwhile trip! Today we take a look at the Relic Knights starter that I picked up from the Ninja Division / Soda Pop Miniatures booth.

I chose the Black Diamond faction primarily because of the Questing Knight therein, Leopold Magnus. His anime-armoured style appealed to me, so even though I normally find myself playing the “good guy” factions in games, this time around I’m apparently open to a little bribery and corruption…

  • Gday At GenCon: Model Photodump

Posted on August 20, 2014 7:00 am by gdaybloke 6 Comments

GenCon is, of course, one of the largest gatherings of gamers and hobbyists on the entire damn planet. It was a delight to be able to attend this year, not only to try out some games, procure cool things, and see nifty peoples, but also to see model after model painted to superb levels and jammed behind glass for the assorted painting competitions. Naturally, I took some pics for you, but I have to give you some caveats before you proceed.

    1. While I’m familiar with a few different miniature companies, I have no freakin’ clue where a lot of these come from, so I can’t provide too much commentary. Accordingly, not everything in this post will have the usual comment flavour that I generally try to offer to you, my beloved Losties.

    2. The vast bulk of these models were behind glass when photos were taken, and the case on my phone is orange. Some reflections may occur, and the lighting in the pics was pretty much out of my hands. Kindly grant me some leeway accordingly.

    3. Some image sorting has occured to group models from the same line together, but I make no promises because I only have so much time on my hands to get this done.

    4. Pics were taken as opportunity presented itself throughout my two days at GenCon. There were many amazing models that I don’t have pics of. If you painted something cool and your model isn’t here, that’s no reflection on you or your ability.

Now, let’s get started with something that surprised and thrilled me – Arena Rex models!

Everyone knows the Platypus is a wonderful melange of animals making for an adorable little monotreme… Proximo, however, is a nightmarish conglomeration of doom waiting to end your miserable existence.

It’s time to monopolize your earlobes for another hour with the latest episode of Lost Hemisphere Radio. While we normally advise against crossing the streams, this episode’s guests include both Pirate Travis *and* Ninja Steve! On the table for discussion? Soda Pop’s Relic Knights arriving on doorsteps around the planet, and the Convergence of Cyriss, setting groundwork for an upcoming article series on Lost Hemisphere. Got time? We’ve got audio. Find it here: Linky!

A special note: We’re on the approach to our 100th episode. Wouldn’t it be neat to hear your voice on the show? Feel free to record a shoutout and email it to submissions@losthemisphere.com!
