Years ago, there was an episode of Let’s Make A Deal. One of the options included a ski adventure. To display this there was a taxidermy’d donkey – apparently part of the show’s prop room for decades – on skis. Said skis had rockets attached. This was the legend of Rocket Donkey inspired. Our equine hero zooms onto the scene with a resounding FWOOSH!

I can see you’re waiting for relevance. August’s target was things that get you from A to B, things that are fast, things that help go FWOOSH! Let’s see what landed in the inbox…

From Aggyface, a little Monsterpocalypse! Defender-X can’t defeat Gorghadra alone! Send in the Strike Fighters!

  • GenCon 2015 Pt 2: Peeps and Props

Posted on August 13, 2015 7:00 am by gdaybloke Comment

Moar GenCon! Yesterday’s post was all about strolling the floor, now let’s take a gander at some of the costumes and cool peeps I bumped into. It’s loose categorization, but I needed some means of differentiating between the two photodumps, deal with it 😉

Ninja Steve was, of course, my trusty sidekick throughout this adventure.

    BAHR! ITSA BAHR!

  • Star Wars: Imperial Assault unboxing

Posted on January 6, 2015 7:00 am by gdaybloke 3 Comments

Happy birthday to me! Well, a few days ago… Having successfully completed another lap of the Sun, low-key celebrations were had (to-wit, I slept in, and later took the kids to the cinema to watch Into The Woods), but somewhere in the midst of it I ended up with a rather large box full of shinies that, well, seemed worthy of an unboxing. Star Wars: Imperial Assault has been flitting around the periphery of my awareness since its release, albeit primarily because there’s an IG-88 villain expansion on the way, and he’s my favourite walking coffee pot.

Behold the box (and apparently Naaresh, who I’ve picked up to use in a Journeyman League sometime after Templecon).

  • FanExpo Canada Photodump2: The Cosplayers

Posted on September 3, 2014 7:00 am by gdaybloke 2 Comments

FanExpo part the Second! This time we’ve got a Cosplay photodump. For those who missed yesterday’s post, a reminder: This was the Gdaykid’s very first FanExpo and the expedition was more about them getting their inner geek’s on than covering the convention for bloggeration, so they appear in a whole bunch of the pics.

Deal with it. I’m a geek dad and proud of my geeklings.

Our first coplay photo was of this other fine geek dad and  his little sidekick, and points to one of the highlights of FanExpo this year. I saw more little kids in costume this year than I have in any previous, and it just warmed my heart seeing all these youngsters proudly engaging in cosplay adventures. I salute you, cosplaying geek dad.

As if the recent posts from GenCon weren’t enough (and I’m still not done with the product reviews et al), this last weekend saw PAX, NOVA and DragonCon appeasing the inner geek in all of us. Oh, and in the magical far off land of Toronto, Canada, there was a little ole’ thing called Fan Expo. It just happens to be Canada’s biggest Comic/SciFi/Anime/Horror/Gaming convention, and I usually like to attend if I’m able.

This year was something special because for the first time I was taking the Gdaykids with me. What this means for YOU, dear Losties, is that Gdayboy and Gdaygirl show up in a lot of the pics in the photodumps. They’re my progeny and I wub them, and it was neat to watch them get their geek on. Oh, yes, I said photodumps, plural. Today you get general convention experience and neat things seen, tomorrow you get pics of cosplayers.

    Enjoy!

  • Faultie at GenCon: One last Photodump

Posted on August 23, 2014 7:00 am by gdaybloke Comment

My constant companion while I was roaming the floors of GenCon was none of other than Faultimus Von Durmstrang. We ate together, we laughed together, he… ran off and did shifts in the Iron Arena, and stuff.

He also sent me all the pics he took during the convention, with no notes or commentary whatsoever, so I’m going to make things up as I go along. I’m pretty sure I’ve got most of these figured out…

Channeling his inner Batman, Faultie spent his first night in Indianapolis perched on a gargoyle and brooding about how annoying it is that Superman gets all the powers.

  • Gday at GenCon: The Second Bit

Posted on August 22, 2014 7:00 am by gdaybloke 1 Comment

So the first part – posted yesterday – showed the leadup to GenCon and Friday’s adventures. Now it’s time to look at Saturday, and my subsequent trip home on Sunday.

As with any good adventure in which I am prone to take part, baked goods feature. This may be because of my superpower – the ability to subconsciously detect baked goods in the vicinity, especially around my workplace. No banana bread is safe!

I awoke Saturday morning to be greeted by LostHemiCupcakes, made with love and peanut butter by the Admiral herself. I don’t know about you, but to me? That’s pretty bloody awesome.

  • Gday At GenCon: Cosplay Photodump

Posted on August 19, 2014 7:00 am by gdaybloke 2 Comments

As anyone following the Twitter and Facebook feeds will be aware, I actually *was* at GenCon this past weekend! Hah, tricked you! I only managed to squeak in two of the four days, but it was an awesome experience in no small part thanks to Ninja Steve (and the Admiral) who played host, Faultie who played constant companion and guide to foods, and so many other very fine peeps including, but not limited to, the Privateer staffers who made their presence felt during my very first GenCon.

There’s going to be several posts based on the weekend’s shenanigans, including at least three photodumps, so I thought I’d get started with one of those.

I did NOT go to GenCon with the express intention of snapping pics of Cosplayers, and Lord knows there were dozens of excellent costumes that I didn’t snap any shots of, but here are some that caught my eye for one reason or another. Wheee!

Just for Lost pal Rich, it’s Aquaman and his (admittedly small) army of seahorses!
