… Who you gonna call? THE STRANGELIGHT WORKSHOP!
They’re creepy and they’re kooky, they’re all a little ooky… they’re a blend of supernatural phenomena and grymkin, crawling into Caen and causing all sorts of havoc for decent minded folk and innocents, who are in no way equipped to deal with spectral threats and otherwordly botherances. Thankfully, there’s an organization ready to take on the challenges of dealing with the ghosts and goblins, protecting the Iron Kingdoms from hauntings and worse. Oh, so much worse.
The Strangelight Workshop is the latest in the Iron Kingdoms Role Playing Game, running on the 5e system but set in the incredibly rich Iron Kingdoms setting, blending the arcane with mechanika for a world that could be described as Steampunk, if you wanted to completely gloss over the depth of the setting. Players take on the role of an agent of the Strangelight Workshop, and are sent to investigate phenomena, helping the restless dead find peace and otherwise making it safer for the citizens of Ceryl to sleep at night.
Take on roles such as:
- The Investigator – a shrewd mind, adept at figuring out what the heck’s going on
- The Bouncer – providing the muscle to protect the team from physical threats
- The Caller – psychically sensitive and attuned to the spirit world
- The Jammer – geared up in mechanika that literally lets you punch ghosts
- The Mechanik – all that mechanika needs to come from somewhere
- The Arcanist – mercenary spellcaster, wielding arcane forces
This Kickstarter is another labour of love from the team that brough you Iron Kingdoms: Requiem and its expansions – Borderlands & Beyond, Nightmare Empire and Into The Deep Wild. Be ye not afraid though. While Strangelight is written in such a manner as to be fully compatible with the Iron Kingdoms: Requiem setting, allowing for an even richer roleplaying experience across all of the Iron Kingdoms, this Kickstarter is also written to be playable as a standalone gaming experience.
While you can certain get your mitts on earlier books through the Kickstarter, Strangelight Workshop is provides you with everything you need in and of itself to get your ghostbuster on without needing to purchase any of the other books. It is worth nothing that hardcovers of each of the books from the previous kickstarters are being made available through this one, should you have missed them.
With a core book, a Specternomicon providing listings of all sorts of gribblies, and a selection of great case files for your party to investigate. Strangelight Workshop is a complete package for someone curious to take their first steps into one of the most engaging fictional settings ever compiled (personal opinion, of course, based on over a decade of playing in that particular sandbox).
You can also get your hands on miniatures, a cloth map, a GM’s screen, dice and metal coins, encounter and spell decks, and even a rubber stamp to help you make official Strangelight Workshop documents to fling at your players. All in all, it’s a pretty darn complete package.
Already funded, the kickstarter is chugging along and unlocking more case files and more treats for the players. I guess at this point, the only question for you is:
