Warmachine Weekend Warbles

Ever had one of those moments when you’re in SUCH a painting groove, and you suddenly realize you need to write a blog post, and you’ve only got a short amount of time before pumpkin o’clock but Lost Hemisphere is a harsh taskmistress, digital though she may be, and you have to come to terms with the fact that you have to put the brush down and stop working on that something you were really enjoying because of a self-established blog posting schedule that must be adhered to? No? Just me then? Well, crud.

I sit here today after a weekend of watching my pals and various folks that I only really know through the interwebs having all sorts of glorious fun at Warmachine Weekend. We’ve seen some glorious¬†model spoilers such as…

And Dallas Kemp’s work on the Victor…

I’d be hard pressed to say what’s excited me the most from what we’ve seen and heard from Warmachine Weekend, though let’s face it, the new Warlocks are hot topics, and I don’t mean places to buy geek and music t-shirts. Una the Skyhunter, Lord Tyrant Zaadesh, Horgle the Anvil and Fyanna, Torment of Everblight, were all released in limited edition sets with pretty boxes, metallic foil’d cards, and pins. That last word there meant, of course, I had to order all four of the darn things, though that does mean that we’ll be able to do some unboxings well before the street dates for the models.

Each of the new sculpts is pretty darn gorgeous. We got to see Dallas working on Una at GenCon, but it’s Zaadesh that’s caught my eye for now. Perhaps it’s just because of the dueling with greatswords at the Ealdormere Crown Tournament the weekend before last, but I’m very interested to see how he’s going to play out. Mat 7 and P+S12 aren’t earth shattering, but Sacrificial Pawn and Flank with warbeasts, and the ability to give his entire battlegroup Countercharge is a thing. Keep a pack of Scarabs around, or a pair of Reptile Hounds, and they should be able to countercharge in to enable Flank and/or to be in range for SacPawn whenever needed. Flashing Blade should help combat being swarmed by infantry, and then there’s a feat that boosts MAT, STR *and* grants Defensive Strike…

So unless I’ve math’d wrong or am generally misthinking because it’s late and I really should be in bed, with Battle-Charged upkept and the feat, Scorpion’s Sting, running, if anything tries to move in to engage Zaadesh, something’s going to countercharge in, triggering Flank and SacPawn, so Zaadesh can redirect the damage without having to spend Fury to transfer, and will get a Defensive Strike at an effective MAT 11, P+S 14 with three dice on damage. That seems rather decent to me. Of course, timing the feat will be key, but still…

Which Warlock caught your eye?
