5e Monster of the Day: Goristro

Chris received a D&D Monster of the Day calendar. You get to enjoy his thoughts.

I kind of expected something named a Goristro to have a more simian aspect, rather than looking like a particularly demented minotaur. I’m not arguing, mind. It’s great that we have minotaurs in Dungeons & Dragons, but it’s that much cooler when we have a 20′ tall demon minotaur stomping its way through labyrinths (well, the ones they can fit in).

Goristro are demons, plodding their way through the Abyss like living siege engines. Sometimes harnessed and equipped with a palanquin, they’re sometimes used to carry smaller demons around. Like, you’re making your way through the abyssal hellscape (as opposed to the hellish abyss) and you hear the thud of hooves large enough to do, say, 3d10+7 damage. You circle the wagons, and then out of the dust and darkness looms a shadow larger than you’ve ever encountered. Towering, a massive beast rises before you. Horns capped in brass, wickedly tipped – like, 7d10+7 on a fore attack, for sure – frame a vicious face, eyes burning with hatred. Massive knuckles rest on the ground as you see movement across its shoulders… and a frickin’ Quasit pops its head over and says “What’s all this then?” in a high pitched voice.

You pause, surprised, perhaps chuckle… and then the Goristro piledrives you into the ground.

There’s not a lot of depth to the Goristro. It’s an enormous slab of muscle and pent up violence waiting to be unleashed, but it’s pretty predictable, even if it does have over 300 hit points and resistance to magic effects.

But think. Baphomet is the lord of all minotaurs. Goristro are enormous demon minotaurs. Now imagine what you have to deal with if you decide to take on Baphomet…
